Green Growth Pilot – Community Energy & Agriculture

Testing how affordable energy, productive-use equipment and climate-smart agriculture can unlock income, jobs and resilience for rural communities.

Overview

The Green Growth Pilot is a field initiative led by Nova Crest Green Consult to demonstrate how integrated energy and agriculture solutions can create measurable economic and environmental benefits for rural households.

Working with local partners, the pilot combines renewable energy, irrigation, post-harvest equipment and business coaching to help farmers move from subsistence to commercially viable production while protecting natural resources.

Objectives

  • Improve productivity and incomes for participating farmers and agribusinesses.
  • Demonstrate the business case for small-scale renewable energy and productive-use assets.
  • Generate data and lessons that can inform larger programmes and investments.
  • Strengthen local capacity for planning, operating and maintaining green technologies.

Key Components

  • Decentralised energy solutions: Solar systems and efficient equipment for irrigation, processing and cold storage.
  • Climate-smart agriculture: Support for improved seeds, soil health, water management and sustainable practices.
  • Enterprise support: Business planning, record-keeping, market linkages and financial literacy for farmers and agri-MSMEs.
  • Monitoring & learning: Field data collection on yields, income, gender participation and environmental performance.

Geography & Duration

The pilot is being rolled out in selected communities in Ghana, with a phased implementation over 12–18 months. The model is designed to be replicable and scalable to other regions in West Africa.

How Partners Are Involved

Nova Crest collaborates with local governments, farmer groups, technology providers, investors and development partners. We co-design interventions, agree performance indicators and share learning to support future scale-up.

Current Status

Baseline assessments have been completed and the first cohort of farmers and enterprises is being enrolled. Procurement of energy and agricultural equipment is underway, alongside training on business planning and sustainable farming practices.

Interested in partnering?

We welcome institutions, investors and programme managers who are interested in green growth, rural livelihoods and climate-resilient food systems.
